Almasi Athieno Linda
Linda believes in service above self. She holds a Bachelor of Education with a specialization in History and Swahili language. She is committed to combating gender inequality, gender-based violence, and social injustice with the added goals of protecting the dignity of girl children and promoting opportunities for their growth.
Linda’s passion for matters impacting women and youth has enabled her to stand courageously and be a part of different programs. For example, Linda led a two-day, online workshop on Women, gender, and change in Africa. Specifically, this program focused on Maasai communities in Kenya together with gender violence in South Africa. It included undergraduate students from the Hochschule Für Gestaltung und Kunst Institut Hyperwerk (University of Art and Design) and extra session of question and answers for the University’s master students, lecturers, and professors.
Additionally, Linda was a student representative for Kenyatta University in the “International Youth Fellowship” program held at Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi, Kenya. The purpose of the fellowship was to train youth in areas of leadership. In 2018, Linda attended “Nairobi Innovation Week,” the theme of which, among others, included increased accessibility to mentorship and supporting the scale-up of local startups. This engagement led her to be nominated and compete as outstanding entrepreneur of the year, or “Kenyatta University Association Award,” where she won 1st runners up.
Linda has volunteered in multiple ways. She spoke on the radio station, Conga’sis Fm, about matters impacting youth. She took an active role in assisting the revision of the “National Youth Policy” of Kenya in 2018. During International Youth Day (2018), together with Agri – Cool, she led an event to celebrate youths on the streets of Nairobi. In 2020, and amid COVID-19, she mobilized groups and organizations (e.g., Annick for Kenya) to raise funds and buy food for affected families in villages within Ukunda.
When she is not working, Linda enjoys modelling and fashion design with coverage in Nairobian newspaper and Taifa Leo (Swahili only newspaper).
