Dr. Wilkins Ndege Muhingi

 
 

Dr. Wilkins Ndege Muhingi is a Lecturer of Medical Social Work at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. He previously served as the Deputy Director of Research and graduate studies at Pan Africa Christian University and a Lecturer in the Department of Community Development. Dr. Muhingi holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Social Work from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa. He is a Medical (Psychiatric) Social Worker by training, and he holds a Master of Science in Social Work and Bachelor of Science in Social Work and Healthcare (Medical Social Work), both from St Elizabeth University (Slovak Republic, Bratislava). He has served on various University committees, including the Institutional Scientific and Ethical Review Committee, the Senate Policy Review Committee, and the Research Committee. His research is in child safeguarding and protection, particularly online child protection. He is a trained and qualified Trainer of Trainers in child safeguarding and protection and has carried out several pieces of training in the same focus areas.

Dr. Muhingi is a reviewer of and Editorial Board Member for several journals and has authored several articles in various International Peer-Reviewed journals. His publications have attracted wide readership and citations, all found on Google Scholar and Researchgate. He has presented at International Conferences on topics locally and internationally including Kenya, Spain, Namibia, Hong Kong, Canada, Tanzania, China, South Africa, Uganda, Bangladesh, India, and Rwanda. 

He is an accomplished researcher who has received accolades as well as research and publication training organized by the University of Washington, University of Nairobi, University of Malawi College of Medicine, and St. Paul’s University courtesy of ACEPHEM and RTCI. He is a capable mentor and guide to students and early scholars. In 2019, Dr. Muhingi represented the International Federation of Social Workers during the first UN-Habitat Assembly held in Nairobi. He is an active member of the Kenya Medical Social Workers Association (Consultant in Medical Social Work), and the current Treasurer of the Association of Social Work Educators in Kenya. He is also a member of the Kenya National Association of Social Workers, the International Association of Schools of Social Work, and the Association of Schools of Social Work in Africa.
